Learn about the birds that live in and visit Heaps Peak Arboretum with one of our volunteer bird experts as you walk the one-mile Sequoia Trail loop together. Don’t forget your binoculars. 1 – 1 1/2 hours

Children (ages 4 – 11) are invited to learn about forest wildlife and plants while they make bird feeders, plant native milkweed to attract butterflies, and construct wildlife masks, 1 hour
Edible and Medicinal Plants in the Forest

Discover wild, edible, and medicinal plants with horticulturist Bernie Kerkvliet as we walk the one mile loop Sequoia Trail. This special workshop is being offered for the first time ever at Heaps Peak Arboretum. 2 hours
Guided Nature Walk
9 AM September 14th
Experience the 1 mile Sequoia Trail loop with a local plant expert where you’ll learn some history of our forest, as well as discover native plants and how they benefit the local environment. 1 hour
Introduction to Composting
9:30 AM September 21st
Learn how easy it and fun it is to recycle your fruit and vegetable scraps, leaves, and plants cuttings into compost! This workshop teaches composting basics, and has some specific tips for composting on the mountain. 1 hour
Native Plant Sale
8 AM – noon September 28th
Come see what California native plants can do for your mountain landscape! Select from an offering of native plants specifically chosen for our area and the season. Sales begin at 9 AM and at 12 noon, or while supplies last. Profits from the sale benefit ROWIA and our work at Heaps Peak Arboretum.
40th Anniversary Celebration
2 PM October 5th
You are invited to commemorate 40 years of Heaps Pek Arboretum. The celebration event includes music, history, and guest speaker CA state senator, Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh. Refreshments will be served. 1 hour

Upcoming 2024 Board Meetings
ROWIA Board meetings are held on the second Monday of each month from 10:00 a.m. until business is completed, generally about 12:00 p.m. Our new location is 27415 School Road, Lake Arrowhead, CA 92352. Visitors are welcome.

- Visit the National Children’s Forest: the visitor center is open Saturdays and Sundays from 9-5. They offer informative programs and have nature walks.
